The Addictions Research Program at BCCEWH
Applying a gender lens to research, program and policy development on women and substance abuse means asking questions about women's social location, power, and access to resources. It means going beyond sex-disaggregated data to contextualize those data within a comprehensive understanding of women's lives. And it means situating women's substance use in the context of women's everyday lives and understanding the importance of balancing action to support individual and systemic changes to improve women's health.

BCCEWH is invovled in a number of research and knowledge translations projects, which we conduct in partnership with academics, policy-makers, hospital and community-based health care and social service providers, drug user organizations, and women's health advocates.
