The British Columbia Centre of Excellence has focused its work since 1996 on conducting or facilitating innovative, multidisciplinary research that examines the determinants of women’s health. While the overall mission of the Centre has remained consistent, the topical focus of activities within the BCCEWH has evolved and will continue to do so as opportunities and capacity have themselves evolved. This year, we have renamed our priority topics to emphasize the fact that the mandate of the BCCEWH is to improve women’s health and to recognize the emergence of a new theme on chronic disease. Another theme that is emerging is women and physical activity.
These topics reflect the continuous evolution of priorities within the BCCEWH, the influence of partnerships with other researchers, institutions, and funding agencies, and priority setting by staff, Health Canada, the provincial Ministry of Health, and our host institution, BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority.
The current priority topic areas are:
- Women, Gender, Tobacco and Lung Health
- Women, Gender, Addictions and Mental Health
- Women and Health Services
- Women, Gender and Chronic Disease
- Health Promotion and Women; and
- Physical Activity
