Many organizations were involved in the initial proposal to create the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health (BCCEWH) and many of those initial signatory partners remain active collaborators today. Currently, the BCCEWH is affiliated with organizations for the purposes of knowledge generation and knowledge exchange.
Action Schools! BC
Action Schools! BC is a best practices physical activity model designed to assist elementary schools in creating individualized school action plans to promote healthy living. The BCCEWH has supported the development and implementation of this program through involvement with its research advisory board.
BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre
BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), is the only facility in B.C. devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns, and families. BC Women’s hosts the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health and provides valuable in-kind support as well as access to clinical researchers, experts in women-centred care and opportunities to engage in research with women and girls from across the province.
Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse
The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) is Canada’s national addictions agency whose mission is to provide objective, evidence-based information and advice that will help reduce the health, social and economic harm associated with substance abuse and addictions.
On September 26, 2003, the Canadian centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) and the British Columbia Centre for Excellence for Women’s Health formalized an opportunity to enhance their respective roles and effectiveness with the signing of a memorandum that brings together the unique strengths of each organization.

ICEBERGS
Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement: Bridging Excellence in Respiratory disease and Gender Studies (ICEBERGS) is a multidisciplinary group working on developing better methods for studying gender and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Several researchers at BCCEWH are co-investigators of this CIHR-funded initiative.
INWAT
The International Network of Women Against Tobacco (INWAT) is a global network of tobacco control specialists dedicated to achieve improved health and greater equality among women and girls in the world by eliminating tobacco use and exposure. Lorraine Greaves is currently serving as the President of INWAT.
Key Centre for Women's Health in Society
The Key Centre for Women's Health in Society, since its foundation in 1988, has been at the forefront of thinking, researching, teaching and disseminating information about women's health. Researchers associated with the Key Centre and the BCCEWH are involved in joint collaboration on research and knowledge exchange.
NEXUS
Based at the UBC School of Nursing, NEXUS brings together a multidisciplinary research group committed to understand how gender, place and social contexts intersect to influence health behaviour. Lorraine Greaves, Executive Director of BCCEWH, is a Lead Investigator with NEXUS.
proMOTIONplus
proMOTION plus is the British Columbia organization for girls and women in physical activity and sport. The BCCEWH works with proMOTIONplus to support girls’ and women’s involvement in sport and physical activity.
YWCA
The YWCA is a charitable, voluntary organization of member associations, providing high quality programs and services that respond to community needs. They work actively for the development and improved status of women and for responsible social and economic changes that will achieve peace, justice, freedom, and equality in Canada and around the world. The BCCEWH is currently conducting a project with the YWCA of the impact of supportive housing on the lives of mothers and their children in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.
